Today is World Bee Day.
Bees and other pollinators play a vital role for almost 75% of the world’s crops, which produce the fruits and seeds consumed by humans (source: FAO).
Pollinators, like bees, are also responsible for fruit diversity.
However, intensive farming, monocultures and the use of pesticides have spoiled the pollinators’ habitats and have become a threat to the existence of pollinators, particularly bees.
Cities such as London and Milan are setting up green corridors to preserve bees, as well as the other pollinators.
Nevertheless, this crisis compels us to do more.
We need to encourage more agricultural diversification, switch to products that use less pesticides, reduce pollution, and raise public awareness about this issue.
Ultimately, we need to change our lives and send a clear message to politicians and corporations.
Our priority is to protect the environment, for ourselves, for our future, and for our planet.
